I am super excited to share this children’s book with you. Mama’s Purse by AJ Irving is very cute, very imaginative and for the twist, has a lot of rhyming.

This story is about what is in mama’s purse. Mama’s purse has everything but the kitchen sink in it. Each page is full of silly rhyming and the illustrations match each rhyme perfectly and colorfully. We were excited to turn each page as we wanted to know what silly adventure we would see next.

Book blurb:

What’s in my mama’s purse? Much more than bandages and bananas! You won’t believe your eyes because so much fun hides in my mama’s purse. From a yellow moose and a caboose made of juice to a trout and numbers to count, Mama’s purse is full of super silly surprises. You’ll never guess what zooms out next!

About the Author:

AJ Irving is mama who has EVERYTHING in her purse, everything except the kitchen sink. (I think I can relate to this as I have just about everything in my purse as well. I call my purse the never ending black hole, as one could also lose things in my purse, such as keys.)

AJ Irving has received a B.A. in Journalism and Women’s Studies from the University of Oregon. She lives with her husband and children in Boise, Idaho.

Our Thoughts:

My daughter and I really enjoyed this book. The first thing out of my daughters mouth when we finished was can we read it again. I loved how she giggled through the book. Rick Thomson did a wonderful job illustrating the surprises found in Mama’s Purse. I loved the rhyming in the story. It’s something I can go back to and touch on after reading the story a few times. I thought the illustrations were colorful and truly fit the story.

I want to mention our favorite part of the story was seeing mama and daughter ice skate with a lip syncing mink. I think it is our favorite because that is something we have been wanting to do this past winter but didn’t. It kind felt like you were right in the scene of things in this story.
